Shortly after, Ryan told me he wanted to name the baby and that he already had a name for her, since he felt very strongly that the baby was a girl. Her name: Bella, which means "beautiful." By Sunday, we had decided on the middle name: Michaela. I picked it, not only because I love St. Michael the Archangel, but because it means "Gift from God," and Baby Bella is our most beautiful gift from God.

Mary and Ryan update
Our room:
The kitchen:
Living Room:
With Audrey, Kathleen and Rachel (and Ryan's sword, which somehow managed to be put in a prominent place in our apartment, right next to our picture of the Holy Family). After I looked at this picture I told Ryan that next time, he shouldn't take such an unflattering picture of me or could at least have the decency to tell me how bad I look. He then pointed out that he values his life, and wants to live to see his baby, and therefore isn't going to say "Hey um Mary, you look fat in this picture." I have to say, he did have a good point.
Ryan update: Let's just say he's a happy man now that our TV and home entertainment system are all set up. It was a lot of hard work putting it together, but Ryan was particularly diligent and hardworking in that endeavor. Here he is playing Medal Gear Solid on his Game Cube...the one that a co-worker gave him for free after I told him he couldn't buy one. The other night, as we were getting ready for bed, he asked me very meekly if he could play a little, asking me ever so thoughtfully "that is, if you don't mind hearing the video game in the background as you fall asleep." I fell asleep right away.. and woke up later to go to the bathroom. As I did, I found that Ryan was not in bed with me, and that it was 4:30 in the morning. Sure enough, he was playing his game still, and his face at the moment I walked in on him was one of absolute surprise and terror... I have never seen such a guilty face on any kid with his hand caught in the cookie jar. By the time I returned from the bathroom, Ryan was in bed pretending to be asleep, as if I had dreamed it all. Nice try, buddy.
We also have access to watching NFL games on the internet (since we don't have cable), which we in turn hook up to the TV. Here is Ryan before the Buc's game on Sunday, when they beat the Seahawks.
So, life has been pretty good for Ryan nowadays, and he, like David, is already a very proud daddy. Ryan talks to the baby and kisses the baby goodnight, and is working hard to make the baby like him more than me (not going to happen). He tries to tell the baby jokes and is convinced that Baby Tompkins will always find his jokes hilarious. Ryan also has started to sleep at night with his hand on my tummy, which he does all through the night now. I think it is very cute to wake up and find Ryan's hand there...he says that he is already protecting the baby that way. Isn't he going to be a great dad?
Sorry this post turned out so long but I just wanted to let you all that we are alive and well. We look forward to more blog updates from everyone and hopefully a webcam visit soon. We love you and miss you! -Mary and Ryan
My 22nd Birthday
When we returned, I had a birthday party complete with the traditional Suarez birthday cake (with cocoa whipped cream frosting...a Cuban recipe) and very sweet notes from each of the Kazas. I also received 4 Symphony chocolate bars from Tabitha and got to hold baby Simon before I left for home...in other words I was spoiled rotten.
For dinner, I picked Ryan up from work and we went to the Cheesecake Factory there in McLean. Here I am looking very spoiled indeed:
Here is Ryan, looking handsome as usual.
When we got home, we had our own birthday celebration complete with a cake that Ryan decorated for me. My mom's response to this picture (when I posted it on the Suarez family blog): "Let's hope Ryan never has to support you with his cake decorating skills."
On Saturday morning Ryan brought me breakfast in bed. It was delicious! Ryan cooked the pancakes perfectly (I was impressed) and even remembered to fill my glass of milk to the brim, as I always remind him to. Funny how all of my birthday surprises involve lots of fattening foods. Hmmm. I took a picture before I scarfed it down, I mean, ahem, ate it delicately and slowly:
He also gave me flowers and a card, which said inside that he was going to take me shopping at the outlets and IKEA for the day!
At the outlets we bought some maternity clothes that were on sale, for next summer. A very exciting moment for us, which was even more fun due to the fact that I discovered a little cushion with straps in the dressing room. While I wasnt entirely sure, I figured it was meant to go on your tummy to imitate having a big belly. So, I tried it out and gave Ryan a shock when I stepped out of the dressing room looking like this:
Quite the preview, huh? We also stopped in a bunch of baby clothes stores, and had fun looking at the newborn baby clothes. We cannot wait for this baby to come!!! Finally, we stopped by the Kazas on our way home, and Ryan made his first leaf pile with the kids:
And there you have it: my 22nd birthday. I thought I would give a detailed outline with pictures of everything so that you could all feel like you were there with us, each step of the way... even if it was against your will :p Sunday, October 19, 2008

Baby Lantigua's First Pictures

This experience was so amazing!! I still cannot believe that this perfect, beautiful little baby is growing inside of me. God is so good. What an amazing gift life is! It was so exciting when our baby started moving during the ultrasound! That is how we were able to get the cute HI! picture. It was amazing. I can't wait for you, Ryan and Mary, to see your baby for the first time. It truly is a precious experience!
Well, thanks to Christina, David and I are now finally able to upload pictures!! So we will definitely be posting picture updates more often! Here are some pregnant lady pictures. I am 8 weeks in the first one, and 12 weeks in the second, the most recent picture and uncomplimentary.
I am in my 13th week now! Almost done with the first trimester!! Wahoo! My clothes are definitely getting tighter now in the belly area. I actually can't wear anything anymore without unbuttoning the top or all of the buttons. I think maternity clothes are just around the corner for me. Thankfully GAP has a really cute maternity line for the fall and winter! So I am super excited!
Everything else is going well here in South Bend. It is definitely Fall now: the leaves are gorgeous shades of red, orange, and yellow; you can't go outside without a coat; and apple pie and pumpkin bread, pie, and carvings are totally in right now! This is definitely one of my most favorite seasons.
My new job is also going well! I am really enjoying it. Everyone is so nice, and I just love being in the performing arts atmosphere again. Today I got to preview videos of different dance companies that we are thinking of bringing to the performing arts center in a few seasons from now. It was really cool! Oh, and Mom, I forgot to tell you, but my boss's wife totally remembers you!! She remembered you as soon as he brought up my name for the first time. He told me that she remembered me, you, and that we were well-trained. I thought you would love to hear that!! lol
David is also doing well. He studies very hard, and is still making outstanding grades! I am very proud of him! He is so excited to be a daddy. Everyday he talks to the baby, and tells me how excited he is to meet the baby! But he of course doesn't want to get too excited because he wants to enjoy this beautiful time as well.
Well I think that is all the update for now. We love and miss all of you very much!
God bless!
Happy Birthday, Mary!!
We hope you have a fantastic day filled with so much love and happiness!!
We love you very much, and are so thankful to have you as a part of our family.
We have had so many great memories together, and I can't wait to make more and share them with our little ones!
I hope you are feeling well today, and that Ryan treats you no less than the princess you are.
May God bless you (and baby Tompkins) always!! We thank Him for the gift of your life!!
Love always,
David, Marisa, and Baby Lantigua
P.S. This is an old pictures from last year when you guys came to visit us in Miami, and I always promised you I would send it to you but totally forgot plus my camera wasn't working. Thanks to Christina we can finally download pictures again! So here it is! Enjoy! (don't you love Ryan's hair lol)
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!! I hope you are feeling well and little baby Tompkins in there is doing great! I just wanted to say thank you for all that you've done for me, my family, and most importantly my brother. You have been a wonderful sister through my college years and I look forward to spending more time with you, Ryan and your future kids. I have so many great memories with you so I attached some pics of you and me and I picked some of my favs...there's too many. Anyways, I love you Mary and Happy Birthday! Eat that sharp cheddar cheese! Oh yeah, save some food for me when I'm up in Virginia. :) lol
Love always,
Uncle Joey
PS - still haven't been able to figure out how to put the pics in order yet.

Update

Hey Guys,
Here are some pics from some of my soccer games. Our team is 3-4-1 and even though we have a losing record now I believe we are going to finish at 7-6-1. It will be the first time in history an Ave Maria sports team finished with a winning record! All of these pics are saves...I'm pretty sure the first one is because if you blow up the pic you can barely see the outline of the yellow ball about to hit my hand. Maybe, I'm wrong but I like to think that I saved it.
So, love you guys! I hope you are all doing well!
God bless-

Tompkins Baby update :)

I had my first Doctor's appointment on Thursday, at a wonderful Pro-Life clinic in Fairfax, VA. I found out that my due date is May 23rd, which means that I am 7 weeks pregnant. I also had my bloodwork done and they called me back the next day with the results; they said that my numbers "look great" and that I can go in for my first sonogram in 1-2 weeks. That will be an exciting appointment, for sure!
I find myself rubbing my tummy a lot already, which is kind of silly but Ryan thinks its cute so he took a picture.
And finally, here is Ryan celebrating being a father with a cigar on the balcony of our apartment.
That's the latest on Baby Tompkins, and we'll continue to keep you updated! We love you and miss you all! -Mary and Ryan

And that's it! Ryan and I are very cozy here and think that we are very blessed.
